The news source reports that the activity is something Durm has been doing for quite some time, and six years ago he and some friends embarked on a 12-day journey from Maryland down the coast to Key West, Florida.
"It was one of the best vacations I ever had!" Durm told the news provider.
"I would like to do it again on my 80th birthday."
Older adults, like Durm, who stay physically active even as they age may enjoy many benefits of their adventurous lifestyle. While not everybody can gallivant on a jet ski, recent studies have shown that even mild exercise has many positive effects. According to the International Council on Active Aging, an 18-month study on the benefits of exercising found that even engaging in a single program improves bone density and reduces the risk of falls.
