Retirement living senior spreads happiness in depressed city

Although Portland, Oregon, was ranked the unhappiest city in the United States by Business Week, its denizens are getting a ray of sunshine though one man's actions.

According to WalletPop.com, Mick, who only gave his first name to the news source, has morphed into a local celebrity after promoting lunch specials at the Round Table Pizza restaurant. The retirement living senior wears a sign around his body and hoots and hollers to passersby.

"He's got one of those sincere smiles," Bob Rienzo, a manager at the restaurant, told the news source. "It's not fake."

Mick, who is 75 years old, was laid off from his sanitation job five years ago. However, after walking around the local neighborhood with a permanent smile on his face, a manager at the restaurant offered him the position.

"When I went to work for Bob," Mick told the news outlet, "it was probably the happiest day of my life."

Retirement living seniors are likely to feel healthier if they heed the age-old saying "laughter is the best medicine." According to HelpGuide.com, laughing may boost one's immune system, relax the body and even increase blood flow, which can protect the heart.
