New retirement living facility in Maryland

Elderly people in Maryland who are interested in moving into senior housing might like to know that a new retirement living facility will be opening in Randallstown in 2011.

The Greens at Liberty Road is an affordable senior housing complex whose construction is expected to be finished by June 2011, according to the Baltimore Sun.

New retirement living facility in Maryland The facility will be built on nine acres of Randallstown land and will offer 105 rental units that will be reserved for citizens over the age of 62.

"We have an expanding elderly population in Baltimore County," said councilman John Olszewski to the Sun. Maryland is providing a $2 million tax credit to help the facility. "Without these tax credits, some of these developments for the elderly would not be done."

According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the growth of Maryland's elderly population will increase to 16.4 percent by 2025. In 1995, 11.3 percent of the state's population was considered elderly.

Construction of the facility is expected to begin this month on the 9700 block of Liberty Road.
