Wax treatment may help those with arthritisA senior center in Marlborough, Massachusetts, is offering free wax hand treatments as a form of physical therapy for those who suffer from various health conditions, according to The Marlborough Enterprise.

The treatment involves dipping the senior's hands into a tub of warm paraffin wax for several minutes, which helps those who suffer from arthritis, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. The heat from the wax helps these physical conditions as it improves blood flow and relaxes the muscles, according to the news provider.

"It's very good for the arthritis in my fingers," Leona Sampson, who regularly receives the treatment, told the news source. "It makes a lot of difference."

The treatment also helps dry and cracked skin by making it smooth and soothing any pain, the media outlet reports.

According to the American Physical Therapy Association, physical therapy can be very helpful to seniors to help them maintain their active lifestyle. It can enhance their mobility so they are able to perform their daily tasks, provides an alternate to surgery and can eliminate pain without medication.
