The national competition will be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, all-expenses-paid trip to finalists. Chartwell Senior Star will be held in the Fallsview Theatre in the Scotiabank Convention Centre.
Tracy Jones, sales and marketing manager at the Hartford Retirement Centre in Morrisburg, told The Standard Freeholder: “It’s a good opportunity for the seniors to show their musical talent and get their names out in the community.”
The Hartford residence has showcased talented singers, musicians and even a woman who did a hula dance.
“I just think that there are a lot of people in the area that have musical talent and I think it’s a really big event that a lot of people aren’t aware of,” Jones told the Standard Freeholder. “I think once they know it’ll be big.”
Last year's Senior Star was the talented Toni Pinto from Vaughan, Ontario, who presented a Grand piano performance of the beloved composition Autumn Leaves combining classical and jazz improvisation. The judges joked that Toni could expect to get calls for work for his dazzling technique.
Senior Star auditions are open to anyone over the age of 65. Trials can be held in all kinds Retirement Living residences.
