Tomar’s skills with guns began when she was 15 years old and fired a shot for the first time. “As soon as I shot my first pistol I was hooked,” she was quoted as saying. “And now I’ve shown everyone there’s no disadvantages to my age. If you’re focused, you can do anything.”
The mother of six and grandmother of 15 has won 25 sharpshooting competitions, according to the news source. Ten years ago, she took a granddaughter to a firing range in her village of Johri, in northern India. But while her granddaughter was too afraid to take up sharpshooting, the local firing range took a liking to Tomar, and she became a regular there.
Not only has she inspired her friends and family, but she has been an encouragement to many other members of the shooting club who, according to the media outlet, have joined the police and military since getting to know Chandro Tomar. If she ever moves into an assisted living or Alzheimer’s Care community, her experience will certainly be a conversation starter.
