But some people live far longer than that.
According to a recent article in the Times & Transcript newspaper of Moncton, New Brunswick, Jessie Smith, who recently turned 100 years old, is a century old, and has no intention of going anywhere.
Smith, who is a resident in a local assisted living community, recently celebrated her milestone birthday with friends and family.
“Oh I just love it, I couldn't be happier than when I'm with my family,” she told the news source. “They've all done quite well and I'm proud of them.”
Smith married in 1936, and had seven surviving children. Now, she has close to 20 grandchildren, plus great-grandchildren, and even a great-great-grandchild, who is a five-year old girl.
And while the new centenarian may surprise many, her relatives say she’s not the only one to live an unusually long life: her mother lived until 102, and many of her siblings are close to 90 years of age.
