Cruise give-a-way to deserving caregiver

Cruise give-a-way for deserving caregiverThe amount of work that goes into taking care of an elderly parent can overwhelm even the hardest of workers, and sometimes everyone deserves a little vacation. The 2011 Cruise Sweepstakes offers a five-day cruise for a family caregiver that needs some time off. The cruise will ship off this January.

This past year the winner was Christie Rider, who had moved her family into her grandmother's house, who was 94 years old, after she fell and injured herself.

"She's the type of person who doesn't take time for herself and puts herself last," said her daughter Tiffany Rider-Moore. "We always did vacations every summer and the last couple of years she was not able to go or her time away was cut short. I nominated her so that she could have a vacation of her own."

The contest also gives these caregivers 40 free hours of care from a Home Instead Senior Care professional.

Family caregivers are not always the way to go for everyone. Many individuals feel at ease knowing that their loved one is surrounded by help at nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
