College students host prom for senior citizens at assisted living home

Students from Bakersfield College in California recently got together with the seniors at The Hallmark of Bakersfield Assisted Living Home to dance for them and with them, according to Bakersfield's Eyewitness News.

A band played music from the 40s and 50s while older adults and students enjoyed refreshments. The surrounding community helped fund the affair, so that there were colorful balloons and flowers adding an air of spring to the setting.

One resident recalled his youth.

College students host prom for senior citizens at assisted living home "I never went to high school, I always liked to party," he told the news provider. Many seniors had never before been to a prom and appeared to enjoy their first formal dance - whether they were dancing with each other or with students.

A senior guitarist added to the fun by playing a few songs for the assisted living community.

Many retirement homes offer similar events to entertain residents. Experts suggest that, before choosing a senior living facility, older adults should tour the area a few times and ask about the amenities offered.

Some retirement living communities, such as World Golf Village, are centered around one specific theme - in this case, golf.
