Cuts for California caregivers may mean families have to seek alternatives


When Gary Love's mother originally fell outside of a grocery store in Taft, California, she was placed in hospice care, where she remained until her son withdrew her and began caring for her himself, according to The Redding Record Searchlight.


His mother also requires Alzheimer's care, which makes watching over her even more exhausting.

One of the primary sources of revenue for the family is In-Home Support Services (IHSS), but Governor Jerry Brown has recently proposed that many features of this program should be cut in order to balance the budget.


This may mean that Love will instead have to find a nursing home for his mother because the task of caregiving will be too overwhelming.
