Picnic in Texas provides important information to older adults

Older adults and caregivers in Longview, Texas, will have the opportunity to learn about tips for better safety and nutrition at a picnic sponsored by the local Red Cross. The Longview News-Journal reports that local representatives from the fire and police departments will be offering presentations to make retirement living more enjoyable.


"This is a way for us to be of service to the older residents of the Longview area, who often don't receive as much attention at this time of the year, when there's so much focus on preparing kids for school and other activities that are more geared toward younger people," event organizer Paula Price told the news outlet.


According to the news source, the planners are expecting at least 100 people to attend.

In addition to the information provided, there will be a wealth of activities, such as bingo and live music performances.


While the event will have a festive atmosphere, the safety tips provided are important to elderly individuals. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than one third of adults over the age of 65 fall each year in the United States.
