Wyoming Senior Center Re-enacts USO for Veterans Day Kick-off

"Until Every One Comes Home" is the motto of the United Service Organization - USO. This large organization of overseas entertainers and morale boosters has landed on foreign soil to offer shows to war-weary American soldiers stationed overseas.

The USO has been active in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Afghanistan and Iraq. Popular entertainers have participated - Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Al Jolson, Fred Astaire, Marilyn Monroe, Danny Kaye, John Wayne, Ann-Margret, and most famously, Bob Hope.

The Casper Senior Center in Wyoming will recall the glory days of the USO with the Dog Tag Salute on November 5. Denise Brashier, activities director at the Casper Senior Center told The Billings Gazette: "We thought, 'Gosh, as many veterans as we have, a patriotic theme would make a great fundraiser.'"

Saturday night "is to take a few short minutes and make them have the time of their life," Brashier told the media source. Everyone is invited, not just veterans. Dog Tag Salute is intended to be a big kickoff to Veterans Day for all branches of the service. Military decor will be a backdrop to the event and specially painted helmets will be auctioned for charity.

Proceeds from the evening go to the Casper Senior Center to pay for nutritious meals and to the Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund.

Veteran's Day events are good ideas for Assisted Living and Continuing Care residences.
