What songs do older people love?

Older people have a wide range of interests in their musical tastes, according to responses from Yahoo! Answers. The new hymns, the Beatles and Old Country & Western music topped the list.

Other popular answers were:

Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Roy Rogers, Patsy Cline, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, The Inkspots, and Mills Brothers.

Show tunes by Richard Rodgers, the Gershwin Brothers, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter were chosen high on the list.

Songwriters and musicians Hoagy Carmichael, the Andrew Sisters, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman were ranked as favorites.

Songs by old blue eyes Frank Sinatra were evergreen with the grey crowd:

  • Night and Day
  • I Get a Kick Out of You
  • The Way You Look Tonight
  • Best Is Yet to Come
  • Fly Me to the Moon
  • I've Got You Under My Skin
  • Strangers in the Night
  • All or Nothing at All
  • Theme from New York, New York.

Finally, King Elvis is still a popular choice.

So don't be surprised when visiting an Assisted Living or Continuing Care residence to hear these sounds coming through the speakers.
