Chartwell Crowns 2011 Senior Star

The bright lights shone on 10 finalists at Chartwell's 5th Annual Senior Star on November 21, at the Fallsview Theatre in the Scotiabank Convention Centre, Niagara Falls, Ontario.

800 plus spectators were in attendance to enjoy the competition. Industry execs and well wishers were on board to cheer on their hometown favourites.

RetirementHomes.com sent a contingent of 8 reps to take in the entertainment and gave two thumbs up to all the contestants.

The event was hosted by the talented and charming Dinah Christie, finalists were scored by celebrity judges including Canadian icon Gordie Tapp and recording artists Tim Louis and Dan Clancy.

All the finalists glowed like stars but the judges narrowed the field to three:

  • Second runner-up: Florence Hansen, from Cambridge, ON, enchanted the crowd with her exquisite fiddling.
  • First runner-up: Roger Radicioni, a tailor from Ste-Adèle, QC, and an entertaining crooner, accompanied by his entourage of Quebec fans waving flags emblazoned with 'Go Roger Go!'
  • The Senior Star for 2011 was crowned: Toni Pinto from Vaughan, ON, who presented a Grand piano performance of the beloved composition Autumn Leaves combining classical and jazz improvisation. The judges joked that Toni could expect to get calls for work for his dazzling technique.

Chartwell Senior Star is open to all Canadian residents 65 years and older and is a production of Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT.
