Chartwell 2011 Hosts 5th Annual Senior Star

Take over 1000 contestants from across Canada and 50 regional competitions and narrow the list to the top ten. Place them in the Fallsview Theatre in the Scotiabank Convention Center, Niagara Falls, and presto! It's time for Chartwell Senior Housing Star's finale on November 21, 2011.

Chartwell's annual mission: find and present the best senior talent in Canada. When the curtain goes up, 10 finalists who have made it through the competitions will compete for the Senior Star crown.

Celebrity judges Gordie Tapp, Tim Louis and Dan Clancy selected 9 of the finalists from Western Canada and Ontario.

"Star Idol" - coordinated by Chartwell-Quebec - staged a competition and its winner advanced into the Top 10.

The above mentioned celebrity judges will determine the final winners: the Senior Star and two runners-up.

“Senior Star is our way of honouring and celebrating seniors,” said Brent Binions, President and CEO of Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT. “When you witness the performances of these high caliber entertainers, you realize just how much incredible senior talent exists across Canada.”

This year’s Final, will hosted again by the talented Dinah Christie. Singer, performer and Broadway vocal coach Elaine Overholt joins this year's show for coaching and vocal support.

“While the competition is open to Canadian seniors over the age of 65, we’re quite excited by the fact that the average age of our 2011 National Finalists is 77, with the oldest performer being 86.” said Phil McKenzie, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Public Affairs. “Our experience in running this extraordinary competition over the past five years is age has no impact on someone’s ability to amaze you with their talent.”
